I love opening the mailbox and dragging out the stack of junk mail, bills, and other boring things and seeing a pretty colored or odd shaped envelope with a written address peaking out. Whether it is a note, a party invitation, or whatever. It is just so nice when someone takes the time to skip the digital messages, skip the phone and puts pen to paper.
My grandmother does this and it always makes me smile when i see her handwriting in my mailbox. So as early as I can remember I used to spend my allowance on stationary and cards. I loved to go to camp so I could write letters home. I even had a pen pal once. However, as my life has gotten busier and communication is increasingly more instant and technical, I find myself neglecting this passion. It has always been my goal to send one handwritten note a week but admittedly I have fallen behind. Recently I have gotten back on track and it feels so good to walk out to the mail box with my note and put the red flag up.
I know these notes make me smile and I hope they make someone's day on the other end brighter too!
